This Old-Fashioned Banana Pudding takes me back to my childhood. It's easy to put together and has the yummy layers of Vanilla Wafers, bananas, and homemade vanilla pudding, topped with whipped cream.
Gather the ingredients so that you have everything close at hand on the counter or table.
Prepare the Ingredients
Peel and slice the bananas into 1/2" slices.
Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Save the egg whites for making an omelet or Angel Food Cake.
Make the Vanilla Pudding
In a small saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add in milk and egg yolks. Whisk together until well blended.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 4-6 minutes, until thickened.
Remove from heat and add butter, vanilla extract, and Princess Cake and Cookie Flavoring.
Assemble the Pudding Dessert
Line a 9-inch square or oblong pan with 2 cups of the Vanilla Wafers.
Top with half of the sliced bananas.
Pour half of the pudding over the bananas and carefully spread the pudding to the edges with a rubber spatula.
Repeat layers with remaining wafers, banana slices, and pudding.
Top with whipped topping, spreading to cover the pudding. Loosely cover with plastic wrap or a lid, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Serves 8-10.
