This Chocolate Fudge Brownie Trifle is simple to make using leftover brownies, chocolate pudding, and whipped topping. Easy and delicious!

Kids Love to Help Make Trifles!
I happened upon this recipe one day when I had some frozen brownie pieces in the freezer and thought why not make a trifle! We were having a potluck dinner that evening at church, so it was the perfect opportunity to make one–because trifles can feed a crowd.
Trifles are such fun to put together and they always look so pretty and fancy, as though you’ve spent hours making them. But this recipe is super simple to prepare. Plus, kids love to help in the assembly, so it’s another opportunity to include your children (or grandchildren) in food preparation. They learn at such a young age!

Shop for Trifle Dessert Bowls
If possible, you will need a pretty trifle dish to serve this dessert. Trifle dishes are tall and usually made with clear glass so you can view the layers easily. I actually found my trifle dish at an antique thrift store, where I bought it for $5. This was a terrific buy, as you might pay $30-50 for a new one. So, I encourage you to shop thrift stores for serving dishes. You never know what treasures you’ll find!

Gather the ingredients so you have everything close at hand on the counter or table.
Prepare the Ingredients

If you don’t have any leftover brownies, you will need to make a batch. Feel free to use a box mix, if desired, or try my Chewy Chocolate Fudge Brownie Recipe Here. You will need at least half a pan (approximately 5 cups) to make this trifle. Allow the brownies to cool before beginning this recipe.
For an even tastier trifle, you may add chopped pecans to the brownies for added crunch and flavor.
Break the brownies into small pieces for layering and garnishing. Place the crumbled brownies in a bowl.
Using a nut chopper or knife and cutting board, chop pecans.
Make the Chocolate Pudding

Prepare the instant chocolate pudding as directed on package instructions, using either an electric mixer or whisking by hand.
I have made this trifle with both 1 and 2 (3.9 oz) packages of pudding mix. While you can get by with one package, sparingly, it’s quite delicious using two. The option I’m using for this recipe is the larger family-size pudding mix (5.9 oz).
Assemble the Brownie Trifle

To begin assembling the trifle, you will need the brownie pieces (at least half of the pan), the chocolate pudding, and thawed whipped topping, along with the trifle dish.
If you don’t have a trifle dish, you may use a large bowl to make this dessert. Of course, you won’t be able to view the pretty layers, but it will still taste delicious.

Begin by adding 1/3 of the brownie pieces to the bottom of the dish. Spoon half of the chocolate pudding on top of the brownie pieces, carefully smoothing the pudding to the edges of the bowl.

Next, add about 1/3 (2 cups) whipped topping over the pudding, carefully spreading it to the edges of the dish.
Please note that I’m using a 16 oz container of frozen whipped topping. One container wasn’t quite enough, and I didn’t use all of the larger container, although you certainly could be more generous in the layers. Your choice.
Continue the layering process once more with the brownies, pudding, and whipped topping.
Finish the Trifle with a Garnish

If desired, finish the trifle with a garnish. I added a large dollop of whipped topping to the center, with a sprinkle of chopped pecans on top of that. Then generously drizzle the top with chocolate syrup.
If you have plenty of whipped topping, you may cover the enter top with it, followed by chopped pecans, and chocolate syrup. Your choice!
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Overnight is better as the flavors will meld even more, giving the mixture time to soak into the brownie pieces.

Serve large spoonfuls of Chocolate Fudge Brownie Trifle in pretty bowls or on dessert plates. This recipe will serve 12-16 people. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container for up to 4 days.
