Instructions for Making This Recipe

Ingredients for this Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Gather all your tools and ingredients so that you have everything close at hand on the counter or table.

Using a nut chopper, coarsely chop the pecans.

Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the vegetable shortening, softened butter, and sugars. Add large eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

In a small bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to creamed mixture and beat well. Scrape bowl with a spatula as needed.

Fold Candies, Chocolate, and Nuts into Dough

Fold in chopped pecans, bittersweet chocolate chips, and plain M & M’s until incorporated.

I like to use bittersweet chocolate chips for a Chocolate Chip Cookie. But they can sometimes be hard to find. If that’s the case, feel free to use semi-sweet chocolate chips. I LOVE baking with Ghirardelli chocolate chips. I like their large, flattened size AND the taste they impart to the finished product. Try them and see if you become a fan of them as well!

Drop and Bake the Cookies

Drop Dough by Large Spoonfuls onto Lined Baking Sheet

Drop by tablespoonfuls or a cookie scoop onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Bake in preheated oven for 10-14 minutes until golden brown.

Place Baked M & M Chocolate Chip Cookies on a Cooling Rack

Allow to set for 5 minutes and then transfer cookies to a wire cooling rack.

This recipe will make 3-4 dozen cookies, depending on how large you make them! Store in a tightly covered container or freeze in gallon freezer bags for up to 3 months.
