Last year, our daughters surprised me with a 60th birthday outing to Greenwood Country Tearoom, in Greenwood, Missouri (Kansas City region). I believe they serve afternoon tea for special functions, but their main menu is more like a brunch or lunch with tea. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed some wonderful dishes. Of course, one of the first things I did when returning home was to start planning my own Harvest Brunch Tea!

Tea and Antiques!
Some of the autumn foods on the Greenwood Country tea menu that day were Butternut Squash Soup, Cheddar Potato Soup, Apple Pecan Salad, Spinach Quiche, and Sandwiches.
They had so many dessert varieties that we all ordered one and shared bites with each other — Lemon Curd Tart, Apple Bread Pudding, Chocolate Cake, Italian Cream Cake, and Humming Bird Cake (I think). And of course, your choice of tea.
One of the fun aspects of having tea here is the large Antique shop directly attached to it. Think of that–Tea and Antiques! If you have a chance to go to Greenwood Country Tearoom, I highly recommend it!

Setting the Table with Polish Pottery

Okay, now that we’ve gone over my motivation for Hosting a Harvest Brunch Tea, lets consider table settings. It’s officially autumn, so it’s time to get out your fall colored dishes. Did you inherit a set of vintage brown-rimmed dishes with yellow and orange flowers from your grandmother? If so, perfect! If not, white or cream dishes also work, as they go well with fall colored accents.
For this brunch, I decided to set my table with Polish Pottery. For the last ten years, I’ve been adding to my pottery dish collection and finally had enough pieces to serve four guests.

Almost everything on the table was Polish Pottery of various patterns in red, green, orange, and blue. The main patterns on the table were Rise and Shine, Chicken Dance, Country Rooster, Ruby Duet, and Garden Bouquet.
If you’re curious to know the names of other patterns on the table, send me a note, and I’ll give you the information.
Fall Table Decorations

For table decorations, I kept things simple with a green tablecloth, red placemats, and a red and orange table runner. I added miniature pumpkins (for grandkids to take home) and a small floral arrangement that fit one of my Polish Pottery vases.
When choosing flowers for your table, remember to keep the arrangement small and short enough that you can see guests on the other side, which makes for better conversation.
If it happens to be cool enough, you could add some small candles to the table.

Red depression glass accompanied the place settings, as well as some pretty fall linen napkins that I purchased for an Autumn Tea Party. I love April Cornell tablecloths and napkins and recommend shopping on Ebay or her website to catch seasonal sales. Her patterns are so pretty, and the fabric is of high quality and are well made.

For the main course, I’m offering a choice of tea sandwiches, light soups, and quiche. Sandwiches could be as simple as ham, roast beef, or turkey on wheat bread or rye, or a Chicken Salad Croissant. Serve a nice black tea with this course, such as Cranberry Autumn Black Tea.
Dessert Endings

We’ll end our brunch menu with a few selections for dessert–all geared toward fall. Apples, Pumpkin, and Pears–Cheesecake, Pies, Cakes, and Tarts. Be sure to save room for dessert and maybe a chilled (or warm) glass of apple cider.

This concludes my suggestions for hosting a Harvest Brunch Tea. I hope you have enjoyed this post and are enticed by the fall-themed menu selections. Now go to your kitchen and start planning a fall brunch of your own! If you do, please share with me. I’d love to read about your experience.
