Fresh Pomegranates for a Christmas Brunch

(Post modified on 12/17/23.)

Pomegranate juice used to be hard to find, but is now readily available at Walmart or your local grocery store. I like to buy 100% pomegranate juice, but you might try a combination of cranberry-pomegranate or blueberry-pomegranate juice.

I’ve given the option to add as little or as much water to the drink as desired, up to a quart. This will help if you are serving a large crowd and need it to go a bit farther. Or you may simply desire a lighter drink that is not as strong. In the end, it’s all good.

Christmas Wassail is the perfect beverage to serve when you’re looking for a non-alcoholic drink for your guests. It’s also nice for a holiday brunch or tea party.

Irish Coffee Mugs for Mulled Drinks

This drink is especially pretty served in glass mugs, such as Princess House Fantasia mugs, or Irish Coffee Mugs.

Instructions for Making This Recipe

Ingredients Needed: Pomegranate Juice and Cinnamon Sticks

To begin, gather all your ingredients so that you have everything close at hand on the counter or table. The main ingredients  that you might not have in your pantry are pomegranate juice and cinnamon sticks. The other items are fairly common.

When buying pomegranate juice, I like to purchase it from Aldi Grocery Store, but you may also find it at your local grocery or Walmart. Cinnamon Sticks are always handy to have in your pantry for the holidays and they make your kitchen smell so good!

In a large saucepan, combine pomegranate, apple, and pineapple juices.

Using a long-handled wooden spoon, stir in the frozen lemonade and cinnamon sticks. Bring the juices to a boil.

Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for one hour. Add water, up to a quart, as desired. Once it has mulled for the desired time, you may keep it warm in a slow cooker or simmer in a carafe over a low fire.

Serve in pretty coffee mugs either hot or cold over ice. This recipe makes about 4 quarts and will serve approximately 10-12 people.
