Peanut Butter Treats are the Perfect Summer Snack

(Post modified on 1/19/24.)

I love having easy recipes that I can make with my grandchildren. Recipes I made as a child, and ones I helped our girls make. This one with peanut butter is good to make when you don’t want to heat up the kitchen in the summer. But it’s also great for those learning how to measure ingredients and cook on the stovetop.

Ingredients to Make Peanut Butter Treats

(See the full recipe at the bottom of this post.)

  • light corn syrup
  • granulated sugar
  • creamy peanut butter
  • Rice Krispies Cereal

Instructions for Making This Recipe

Gather your ingredients so that you have everything close at hand on the counter or table. Lay out a 24″ piece of waxed paper. Line it with butter, to keep the cookies from sticking to it.

Premeasure the ingredients for smooth cooking experience.

Boiling the Sugars

In a medium saucepan, combine the light corn syrup and granulated sugar, mixing well. Bring to a rolling boil.

A rolling boil is one that doesn’t stop even when you stir it.

Adding Peanut Butter to the Sugars

Remove the pan from the heat. With wooden spoon, stir in the creamy peanut butter. Mix well.

I like using creamy peanut butter with this recipe, but you may use crunchy if you prefer to have bits of peanuts in the cookie.

Stirring in the Rice Krispies Cereal

Add in the Rice Krispies cereal and mix until well coated.

You may use a generic cereal for this recipe, which I have done many times. My original recipe called for 2 cups of cereal, which didn’t seem to be quite enough. Possibly the generic cereal is smaller? I don’t know. You may need to add in 2 1/2 cups of cereal if there seems to be excess peanut butter in the pan.

Letting the Treats Cool and Set Up on Waxed Paper

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto the prepared waxed paper and allow to cool. It may take up to an hour for the cookies to finish setting.

This recipe will make 25-30 cookies.
