Years ago, I made this Cherry Streusel Dessert Pizza for our girls, and they loved it. Easy homemade dough topped with canned cherry pie filling and a streusel topping, then drizzled with vanilla icing. I recently made it again for my husband. Again, we loved it. It’s the perfect ending to a night of pizza.

Warm Slice of Dessert Pizza

As a girl, my family enjoyed dessert pizza at our local Pizza Hut, so when our daughters were young, I tried to duplicate that recipe at home. It was easy to make and was always a hit. For some reason, I stopped making this dessert until just recently. And I’m glad I tried it again, as I had forgotten had delicious it was.

When I make a pizza dessert, I always prepare the dough along with my dinner pizza, one after another. Then while my main pizzas are baking, I’ll finish the dessert preparation. Since no one is ready for dessert right after dinner, there is plenty of time to bake the dessert pizza so we can enjoy it warm from the oven. So yummy!

You may use other pie fillings instead of cherry. I’ve tried apple and blueberry, too, although cherry is always my favorite.

When shopping for pie filling use your favorite brand. I usually shop for one that costs less, and enjoy the filling offered at Aldi Grocery.

Instructions for Making This Recipe

Ingredients for this Recipe

Gather your ingredients so that you have everything close at hand on the counter or table. Preheat oven to 450 degrees, with oven racks set to the lowest levels. If you have a baking stone, place it on the top rack.

Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt. Add warm water and tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil.

Knead by hand or with dough hook, until it forms a nice ball, 3-5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Allow to rise for 30-40 minutes until double.

Form Dough into a 12" Circle

Lay out a 14″ piece of parchment paper on a work surface. Press dough into a 10-12″ circle, about 1/4″ thick.

It’s okay if your pressed dough doesn’t turn out in an exact circle. This is homemade and can be “rustic” looking. At least that’s what I tell myself!

Using a pizza peel, transfer the dough to the hot baking stone. Bake for 4-5 minutes, then remove the dough using the pizza peel. Place the dough on a 14″ round pizza pan.

Make the Streusel Topping

Mix Streusel Ingredients with a Blending ForkIn a medium bowl, combine the old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, mixing well. Add in pieces of butter and mix in using a blending fork. The mixture should be crumbly.

Assemble the Dessert Pizza

Spread Pie Filling over Par Baked Dough

Spoon cherry pie filling over the par baked dough. Spread filling to about 1″ from edges.

Sprinkle Streusel Topping over the Cherry Filling

Using your fingers, sprinkle the filling with the streusel topping, making sure to distribute it evenly.

Dessert Pizza Finished Baking

Return the dough to the hot oven to finish baking, approximately 8-10 minutes. When the dough is lightly browned and the filling is bubbly, remove from oven and return to the pizza pan. Allow to cool for 5-7 minutes.

Prepare the Icing

Mix Together the Vanilla Icing Ingredients

While the pizza is cooking, prepare the vanilla icing. Using a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, whole milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Mix with a fork until smooth.

Drizzle Icing over Warm Dessert Pizza

Drizzle the top of the pizza with the vanilla icing. Slice the pizza into 8 pieces, using a pizza cutter or knife. Serve warm.
