When spring arrives and the temperatures begin to rise, it’s time to get out the grill. And that means, it’s time for ribs! We love BBQ Baby Back Ribs. They are so tender, delicious, and easy to make! The seasoning for these ribs are just right. A little savory spice. A little sweetness. And baking in the oven for 3-4 hours guarantees a tender, juicy meat.

You may be tempted to eat them straight from the oven, but take the final step and grill them for that wonderful barbecue flavor seared right into the meat.

Baked Baby Back Pork Ribs with BBQ Sauce

You may or may not want to brush them with your favorite barbecue sauce. We like Sweet Baby Rays. But they are pretty delicious even without the sauce.

Instructions For Making This Recipe

Gather the ingredients so you have everything close at hand on the counter or table.

Prepare the Dry Spice Rub

Barbecue Rub Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix well.

I really like the addition of smoked paprika for this recipe. If you’ve never tried smoked paprika, I encourage you to give it a try. I love it! However, if it’s not in your pantry, you may substitute regular paprika.

Place a piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil, shiny side down on a baking sheet. Place one slab of ribs in the middle of the foil and generously sprinkle each side with the prepared dry spice rub. Pat the dry rub into the meat to season it.

I use all of the spice rub for this recipe, but if you prefer less spicy ribs, you may save some of the rub in a covered container for use later.

Fold the foil over the slab of ribs so it will hold liquid. Pour 1/2 cup of the beef stock over the ribs. Seal the top and sides by folding and crimping the aluminum foil. Repeat this process with the second rib. Refrigerate for 3-5 hours (or overnight).

Bake the Ribs – Low and Slow

Bake Ribs in Sealed Foil Packets Low and Slow in Oven

When ready to bake, place the baking sheet and ribs in a 275°F oven, and bake for 3-4 hours until ribs are tender.

When planning to bake an item for a long time (over an hour) it is generally not necessary to preheat your oven. For this recipe, you want a low and slow bake for fall- off-the-ribs meat. So yummy!

Finishing Steps – Grill The Ribs

Pour Favorite BBQ Sauce Over the Baked Ribs

To finish the ribs, prepare charcoal in grill. Grill the ribs on each side for 15 minutes on top of foil. Then grill without foil for an additional 5-7 minutes on each side, basting with BBQ sauce as desired.

If you don’t have the time or access to an outdoor grill, you may transfer the ribs to a broiler pan and brush ribs with the barbecue sauce. Place under broiler for 3-5 minutes until the sauce caramelizes.

Allow ribs to rest 5 minutes before serving. Slice each slab into 2-4 rib portions. This recipe will serve 6-8 people.

Serving Suggestions

I like to serve BBQ Baby Back Ribs with Kenny’s Cowboy Beans, Grandma’s Coleslaw, Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad, and Tangy Sourdough Bread or Ranch Loaves.
